About the Historic Peterson's Donut Corner
Peterson’s Donut Corner is a beloved Escondido landmark that has been serving oversized, freshly made donuts to the community for more than four decades. Established in 1981 by Ralph and Vera Peterson, the small corner shop quickly became known for its giant pastries, friendly service, and classic walk-up donut stand experience.
What began as a simple family-run donut shop grew into a local institution, attracting loyal customers from across North County and beyond. The Peterson family built the business on a commitment to quality and consistency, offering dozens of varieties of donuts—from classic glazed and old-fashioned to creative favorites like maple bacon bars and oversized fritters. The shop’s massive portions, affordable prices, and 24-hour service helped cement its reputation as a must-visit spot for early risers, night owls, and anyone with a sweet tooth.
For more than 40 years, Peterson’s Donut Corner remained a true mom-and-pop business, with the Peterson family deeply involved in both the shop and the community. The bakery frequently supported local causes and organizations, including youth sports teams, veterans groups, churches, and charitable programs throughout Escondido.
In 2021, after four decades of ownership, the Peterson family sold the business as they prepared for retirement. The new owners are building upon the legacy of Peterson's founders furthering expanding new donut creations and identifying expansion efforts across the county.
Today, Peterson’s Donut Corner continues to serve generations of loyal customers from its original location on South Escondido Boulevard, carrying forward a legacy of fresh donuts, local pride, and sweet memories for the Escondido community.
